The MRC Career Development Award Chemistry Scholarship

ESF- CUC PhD Studentships Chemistry Scholarship


Chemistry Scholarship Research studentships are available through the scheme are advertised in our faculty list below. These research projects are rooted in the 5 ESF priority areas: Employment & Skills for Low Carbon Economic Development, Employment & Skills for Enterprise & Entrepreneurship, Employment & Skills for Key Sectors, Employment & Skills for the city-Eco, Employment & Skills for Economic Digital.

Chemistry Scholarship Doctoral level funding for PhD research projects specifically available from the European Social Fund (ESF) to the Combined Universities Cornwall (CUC) partners (University of Exeter, University of Plymouth, Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry, University College Falmouth, Cornwall College and Truro & College Penwith).
Higher skill levels have an important role in the activities of the ESF Convergence in Cornwall and the Scilly Islands, and the role of higher education in economic transformation is recognized as being important in this regard.
The Chemistry Scholarship emphasis of ESF funding is on meeting the needs of Cornish businesses and their employees in the knowledge economy, providing them with the skilled people they need to grow, and attracting and retaining the best, thus meeting the skills needed for growth of the Cornish economy.
A total of 40 PhD Studentships (3 yr full-time) are available, funded by the ESF and providing full funding for PhD level research programs in Cornwall at partners in the Combined Universities in Cornwall (CUC) consortium, and in close collaboration with Cornwall based businesses/public sector.
These Chemistry Scholarship collaborative projects involve 2 Higher Education Institutions and a business or public sector partner in Cornwall, and are focused on research in or across the five integrated investment themes identified by the ESF (summarised later).

Scholarship Details:

Two Chemistry Scholarship will be awarded per class and candidates for this scholarship will need to demonstrate: (a) outstanding academic achievement and promise (b) aptitude for business and financial management (c) leadership potential and (d) a commitment to contributing to their country or region at some point in the future.

Eligibility Details:

Chemistry Scholarship Candidates must be a national of an emerging economy and have spent a substantial part of their lives in the developing world, in education and/or professional experience. Experience in industry will be considered a plus. Preference will be given to candidates who require proven financial assistance.

Essay topic Details:

1).Briefly discuss the requirements for successful business leadership in your country today. Describe how you envisage contributing to the future development of your country after graduation and why you should be considered for this award. (200 words)

Engineering Technology Chemistry Scholarship


This Chemistry Scholarship is available to college freshmen enrolled full-time in an undergraduate pre-engineering or engineering technology program leading to a bachelor’s degree in a course of study that traditionally has been a preparatory curriculum for the HVAC&R profession. Chemistry Scholarship Applicants must be high school seniors with a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 on a scale where 4.0 is the highest, and/or a class standing of no less than the top 30%, be accepted into an engineering, pre-engineering, or engineering technology program at a post-secondary educational institution that meets at least one of the following criteria:
-the institution hosts a recognized ASHRAE student branch
-the program is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) or the Partnership for Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration Accreditation (PAHRA)
-the program is accredited by an agency outside the USA that has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with ABET or is a signatory of The Washington Accord

Procedure

We encourage young, enthusiastic graduate students intrigued by the interdisciplinary nature of the Vienna Graduate School of Population Genetics to apply for the program within the application deadline. However, interested students are welcome to apply throughout the year as additional positions may become available. A high level of dedication and activity will be expected from you during the program, and you should be able to integrate into a very international team with English as the working language.

As the next step in the selection procedure the applicants will have the opportunity to interact with current students of the Vienna Graduate School of Population Genetics. This will take place without the presence of the faculty members and should provide the applicants with further insights into the spirit of the PhD program. Furthermore, the applicants are given the opportunity to interact with the prospective thesis advisor to discuss specific aspects of the project. The final decision is made by the faculty, aiming to recruit the candidates with the highest scientific potential.

There is strong competition for these scholarships and applicationmust have gained at least a first class honours degree, or the equivalent, for it to be worth applying.
